Vasco da Gama is an important figure in Lisbon history of Portugal.
Vasco da Gama was a Portuguese sailor who was born in Sines, and was the first Portuguese explorer who arrived to the Americas, years after Christopher Colombus discovered them. Vasco da Gama was also the first sailor to navegate from Europe to India, which was his first great voyage. Because of this he earned the name "Great Admiral of the Indies and of the Indian Ocean."
